The first few weeks of this semester have been busy with the construction on Administration and Neves, a tornado warning, sports being in full swing and the student body growing considerably.

This year North Greenville University set some new school records in student enrollment. According to the admissions office, there are 515 new freshmen and 166 new transfer students, totaling in 681 new students. The numbers of both the transfer students and new freshmen are record highs for the school. At this point there are 1446 students living on campus.

With the high numbers of new students comes a more crowded campus. This affects everything from the lines at the dining hall and even tighter chapel seating, to bigger classes and issues with parking.

Apparently NGU has not only gotten larger, but also more selective in its admissions process.

“We have not calculated the average GPA’s and SAT’s but this looks like the best year academically for North Greenville University,” said Andy Ray of the admissions office.

This surge of freshmen into North Greenville also came as a surprise to Ray. “Most colleges and universities have had lower enrollment than in past years.”

The new freshmen seem to be enjoying their college experience so far.

“Everybody is extremely kind, and I am thrilled to be here,” said Brooks Garret, freshman . “All the professors seem to be very experienced in their subjects.”

Extracurricular activities allowed Taylor Wooten, freshman music education to settle in. “Showing up a week and half before everyone else for marching band helped me meet people, because only a small number of people were on campus at the time. My schedule is set to where I don’t have classes on Fridays, which gives me an early weekend. It’s great because I have 19 hours this year and an early jump on the weekend gives me a break.”

“My classes are pretty cool, I already tested out of one. The teachers are all very helpful and friendly,” said James Amsden, freshman history.
The introduction of 681 new students to North Greenville University has gone smoothly.

As North Greenville continues to grow, there are new buildings going up all around campus and new teachers in nearly every department.
