First Foundations, Incorporated, a Traveler’s Rest based non-profit organization, is holding a writing contest for North Greenville students and awarding a $100 cash prize to the winner.

First Foundations’ founder Dick Jensen is looking forward to this contest. “This is the first time we’ve had a contest specifically for North Greenville students,” he said.

Other contests that the organization has sponsored in the past 10 years have awarded scholarship money for high school students to attend NGU.

Jensen felt called to start First Foundations in 1986 after reading Psalm 11:3, which states, “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” The non-profit does research on the three key societal foundations of government, family and religion. They also publish pocket-sized copies of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence and other pamphlets and books related to history and Christianity.

The NGU contest theme is “My Favorite Bible Story,” and all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled for the Fall 2008 semester are eligible to enter. The writer should give a specific, personal testimony that relates to his or her favorite Bible story and highlights the benefit of Bible study.

Essays, which may not exceed 300 words, should include a reference to II Timothy 3:16-17 and a quote from another passage of Scripture. Any version of the Bible may be used, but writers must document all quotations.

Educators who are not affiliated with North Greenville will judge the essays.

All entries must be mailed to FFI Contest, P.O. Box 991, Traveler’s Rest, S.C. 29690 by Oct. 1. For entry forms and official rules please see Mayson Easterling or Jody Jennings in the Tingle Student Center.
