Crusader cross country competes in first meet

North Greenville’s cross country teams traveled to Limestone College in Gafney, S.C., on Saturday to run in the Limestone Invitational. The women’s team finished in eighth place out of nine teams, and the men’s team took eighth place out of eight teams.
In the women’s 5K race, Limestone won, with Catawba College taking second. St. Andrews, Southern Wesleyan, USC-Aiken, Francis Marion, NGU, Piedmont and Truett-McConnell rounded out the final team standings.
Catawba’s Olivia Jacobs won the women’s race with a time of 18:22. Alyson Trovato of St. Andrews finished second (18:27), followed by Kelly May of Francis Marion (18:52). Shana Sears, freshman English, led NGU with a time of 20:50.
In the men’s 8K, St. Andrews Presbyterian College ran away from everyone in taking the easy victory. Truett-McConnell came in second in the event, followed by Francis Marion, Southern Wesleyan, Catawba, Newberry, Limestone and North Greenville.
Hillary Kiprop won the men’s 8K with a time of 25:55. He was followed by three St. Andrews runners: Mitch Cooper (25:57), Pedro Tapia, Jr. (26:45), and Doug Holt (27:23). NGU was led by Samuel Ramos, sophomore print media, with a time of 30:45.
The cross country team will head to Charleston on Saturday to compete in the Citadel Invitational.
