Phi Beta Lambda may sound like a Greek fraternity or sorority, but on the North Greenville University campus, that is actually the official name of the business club, which is the first organized business club on the NGU campus.

Dr. Wanda Tillman and Dr. Feliccia Smith are the advisors responsible for bringing Phi Beta Lambda to the campus.

The purpose of this club is for business majors and minors to develop their business skills before they get into the business world. The members of Phi Beta Lambda hope to impact the business world for Christ. “We want people to stand for Christ in a world where frankly, they’re seated,” Zach Mullis, club president and senior business administration, said.

The club has about 30 members who are either business majors or minors. In addition to Mullis as president, Bryan Miller, senior business administration/accounting, is vice president while Jennifer Bush, junior business administration, is the secretary. Whitney Smith, junior accounting/business administration, is the treasurer, Randall Rainey, sophomore business administration, is the historian, and Ellen Long, sophomore business administration, rounds out the team of officers as parliamentarian.

To join Phi Beta Lambda, students must be either a business major or minor and must pay a $20 fee that puts them on the national and state register. The club holds monthly meetings that members are expected to attend. At these meetings, professionalism is stressed; therefore, cultural event dress is required. A business professional comes to speak to the club at each meeting.

The most recent fundraiser held by Phi Beta Lambda was a retro skate night held on Friday, Sept. 26. The purpose of this uncanny event was not only to raise money for the club but also for the entire school to have a fun time. Money earned from this fundraiser and others goes to marketing, club trips and payment for the aforementioned speakers.

Anyone interested in joining the business club should contact Mullis or see the North Greenville University Phi Beta Lambda group on Facebook.
