Good news for incoming students  North Greenville is now offering a new scholarship called the Crusader Scholarship, and it is one of the best new scholarship opportunities available to students.

Eligible recipients for this scholarship are incoming freshmen who have already won the Palmetto Fellows scholarship. These students have already met the strenuous requirements for the Palmetto Fellows scholarship set forth by the Commission of Higher Education. The university then invites qualified students to come to a Scholarship Day on campus.

The Campus Scholarship Committee for the Crusader Scholarship schedules interviews with all of the applicants. After the interview, these students are automatically considered for the scholarship, and are given a week to accept it.

The best part of the new Crusader Scholarship is its availability. No limit has been set for the number of students who can receive it per year. As of right now, two students have accepted the offer and the university is still waiting to hear from the others.

“This scholarship is designed for the students who have won the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship and still need extra help in the financial process. These students will calculate from their FAFSA forms, their other grants, and then the state of South Carolina pays $6,800, and then the school pays the difference. The money that the school gives to each student differs from student to student,” Erin Wall, associate director of admissions, said.

The funding for these scholarships comes directly from a fund set up with the Financial Aid department by the University specifically for this purpose.

The Crusader Scholarship is a full-ride for incoming students. It will pay for all of their tuition, housing and meals, but it will not cover books, school equipment or any extra fees (like lab fees).

Another great thing about this program is that, for the time being, the scholarship will cover all of these things even if the price goes up over time. Recipients of the Crusader Scholarship will be able to renew it every year as long as they continue to meet all of the criteria.

Everyone knows what it’s like to have trouble coming up with the money for college. The long lines at the Business Office in each August and January, filled with students praying that they finally found enough financial aid to come to school, are a familiar sight we can all identify with.  The new Crusader Scholarship program will help to relieve that burden for many hard-working students, and provide more opportunities for those who are trying to compete with the rising costs of higher education.
