The Crusader softball team entered last week having won 8 out of their last 12 games and needing 2 more wins to pull up to .500 for the first time this season. NGU hosted Newberry College halfway through their eight-game home stand and were looking for a big win.

Newberry put the first runs on the board and jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. The Crusader softball team would not be outplayed this day outscoring the Indians 6-1 in the final 8 innings to go on and win the first game of the doubleheader 6-3.

Lindsey Eargle, senior sport management Allison Bailey, junior studio art, and catcher Whitney Center, freshman undecided, combined to go 6-for-11 and 5 RBIs. North Greenville unfortunately ran out of gas in the second game of the double header and lost 6-2.

This doubleheader Saturday was the last Crusader home game before heading on a 10-game road trip. NGU hosted Emanuel College for their second doubleheader of the year. NGU managed a split in the first doubleheader but swept both games last weekend.

The Crusaders came out swinging in both game beating Emanuel 5-3 and 5-2 and took their third win in four games this season against them.

NGU’s next game is a doubleheader tomorrow at Milligan. The Crusaders’ next home game is a April 8 doubleheader against Montreat College.
