page4_cdartAs defined by Webster’s Dictionary, depravity is a state of moral corruption. Nashville, Tenn. Metal heads A Plea For Purging explain this definition with supreme precision on their sophomore full-length effort, Depravity.

Hailing from Music City, APFP bring their own unique blend of metal and hardcore to the masses with a passionate, spirit-filled message. This is one band that is hard to miss.  They have literally been on a non-stop touring binge over the past couple years. Chances are they have been in your area a time or two.

APFP is part of the Facedown Records Family and will be playing Facedown Fest on Saturday, April 4 at the Glasshouse in Pomona, Calif. Now I know that may be a little far for most of you to travel, so I have a good alternative for you; go pick up the new album. It will be just as killer… maybe.

Depravity is 10 brutal tracks, full of raw emotion and passion with lyrics that show humanity at its darkest. On APFP’s earlier efforts, there are face melting leads and Dragonforce-like guitar work, but not so much on Depravity. This album has a much darker sound, is a lot heavier and has a more mature feel to it.

One of my favorite tracks on this album is “Motives,” a song dealing with lust and sins of the flesh. The song pertains to temptresses and the people who give into these temptations and desires. The song also talks about putting your foot down and putting an end to this sin in your life.

Another track from this album that stands out is “Malevolence.” This song is laced with crazy guitar work and audio beatdowns. The band also recently released a video for this track that you can check out on their myspace, http://www.myspace.com/apleaforpurging.

I recently texted APFP guitarist Blake Martin to get a quote from him on his thoughts of the new album and this is what he had to say: “If you don’t absolutely love my new album, that’s stupid. I can prove it with science.”

That pretty much sums it all up. If you ever get the chance to meet the band or just go check out the music video, you will learn very quickly that they are a bunch of crazy dudes that love touring, burritos and God. So if you can appreciate the absolute randomness of the band, then I would definitely recommend that you give Depravity a few moments of your time.
