North Greenville faced off against the Montreat Cavaliers in this past Saturday’s game at Hayes Gymnasium. The Lady Crusaders defeated the Montreat Cavaliers (25-18) (25-27) (19-25) (25-20) (16-14).

Lauren Hardy, junior biology, led North Greenville with 15 digs and 4 kills.“Lauren definitely stepped up in leadership today,” Lady Crusaders coach Lauren Axson said.  “She did a great job of firing the team up and keeping us going.”

The Lady Crusaders (5-11) did not give up and stayed in the game with their defensive presence. North Greenville did show weaknesses in miscommunication. Our ladies played a very intense game against the Cavaliers.

Sara Beth White, freshman, Anjelica Wilcox, freshman, and Kayla O’ Kelley, sophomore, had solid games against the Cavaliers. O’ Kelley seemed to be in the right position both defensively and offensively. North Greenville used cross-court passes to set up Kaitlyn Pierce, sophomore, for the slam.

There were some good short sets to O’ Kelley. Axson is a very intense individual. You could hear Axson rallying her girls on to motivate them to get a victory.

One significant thing about the Lady Crusaders is that when they are out on that floor playing, they  play as a team, and when they are off the court, they work nonstop.

North Greenville will face Toccoa Falls tonight at 7 p.m. at Hayes Gymnasium.
