The North Greenville golf team began 2010 with a second place finish at the Outback Invitational in Panama City Beach, FL.

The Crusaders shot a 600 as a team, only trailing Flagler College, which shot a 580, by 20 strokes for the lead. Top performers for the Crusaders included Brad Caldwell, senior sport management, who finished third overall with scores of 72 and 74, Brandon Coggins, senior elementary education, who also finished in the top 10, with scores of 76 and 72 and Richard Smith, senior marketing, who shot 76 and 75.

“We got off to a rough start at the Outback Invitational,” Coggins said. “But we stayed with it and were able to grind out the round. We looked solid from then on out. We are a very consistent team, so if we get off to a good start on the first day, we are hard to beat.”

“We were able to beat some big name teams at Panama,” Coggins said of the competition, “including the defending SAC and Peach Belt championship teams, so we are definitely looking forward to our next tournament.”

The Crusaders will tee off again on March 1-2 as they compete in the Richard Rendelmen Invitational in Salisbury, NC.
