The Lady Crusaders kept their hot streak alive with an 82-75 win over Southern Wesleyan University on Feb. 4 in Hayes Gymnasium. This was North Greenville’s sixth win in their last seven games, and the team believes that they are now firing on all cylinders.

“At the beginning of the season, we knew we had the potential to be great, but we could never put the pieces together,” guard Karly Stache, sophomore mathematics, said. “Now it looks like we are putting them together.”

Stache, who led all scorers with 29 points, hit seven of 11 shots she took from behind the three-point line and shot a staggering 63 percent in the game. Stache said that her high scoring on the night could be attributed to her coaches and her teammates.

“Coach told us from the beginning that their defense was going to be easy to penetrate,” Stache said.

“Nikki [Wood] and Christina [Carlis] kept going at them and they had no choice but to slack off of me.”

Other top performers for the Lady Crusaders were Whitney Smith, senior accounting, who had 10 points and seven rebounds, and Jacquetta Golden, senior sport management, who finished with nine points on the night.

The Lady Crusaders are showing that they can win close games as well as blow teams out. During their four-game winning streak, North Greenville has beaten three teams by seven points or less, and defeated one team by 20. The Lady Crusaders believe that this may be something that will help them during tournament time, which is rapidly approaching.

“It did not look like the season was going to end very well for us,” Stache said. “But now, we have a really good chance to win Regionals. Obviously the next few weeks will be rough, but we have high hopes.”

The Lady Crusaders (10-11) have three more regular season games before they compete in the Regional Tournament on Feb. 15-17. North Greenville traveled to Bristol, TN yesterday to play against King College and will play again tomorrow against Allen University in Columbia, SC at 5:30 p.m.
