After a one-week layoff, the Crusader basketball team was back in action against Voorhees College on Feb. 2 in Hayes Gymnasium. The Crusaders shot 53 percent from the field and used a strong first half to down the Tigers 86-67.
North Greenville held a 44-30 halftime lead thanks to 15 first half points by guard Luke Lattimer, freshman sport management, who knocked down three shots from behind the arch in the opening half of the game.
Lattimer finished the game with 19 points while only missing three shots from the field. Paul Harrison, sophomore sport management, paced the Crusaders offense with 23 points and seven rebounds. Millan Rodrigo, freshman sport management, scored 10 points in the game despite having torn ligaments in his left hand. Tim Franklin, freshman sport management, scored nine points in the contest and Jonathan Bozymowski, sophomore undecided, finished with seven points and seven rebounds.
Latimer continued his hot shooting on Feb. 4 as the Crusaders traveled to Due West, SC to play against the Flying Fleet of Erskine College. The Crusaders survived a 15-5 Flying Fleet run in the second half to come away with a 55-52 victory over Erskine.
“I was very proud of our effort,” head coach Chad Lister said after the game. “We beat a well-coached team on the road tonight. It was a good win.”
Lattimer scored a team high 17 points and Harrison finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Bozymowski scored 12 points in the game and Zack Shields, sophomore undecided, finished with 10 points off of the bench.
The Crusaders (12-6) played against in-state rival Southern Wesleyan University last night and will take on Allen University in Columbia, SC, tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. North Greenville’s next home contest will be against Carver Bible College on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 4 p.m. in Hayes Gymnasium.
