The North Greenville football team will be looking to improve upon its two-win season in 2009. They signed 24 prospects on February 3, 2010.
“We are excited about the number of guys that decided to sign with North Greenville,” said head coach Jamey Chadwell. “We feel really good about the quality of these men and the type of students they will be at the university.”
The Crusaders are hoping that the abundance of new faces will bring more wins and support to the football program.
“These are guys that have really bought into what we are selling,” said Chadwell. “Hopefully some of these guys can come in and play right away and give us some difference makers that we didn’t have last year.
The Crusader coaches believe that moving the ball on offense was one of their key struggles last season, and that is something prospect Kyle Peck believes he can help with.
“Florida athletes are known for their speed,” said Peck. “That is one thing I have that I’m confident will help the team.”
Not only will North Greenville be looking to improve their offensive attack, they have also signed some defensive players that they really feel can do the job. Signee Davontè Alexander, who was a multi-sport athlete in high school, says he hopes he can be a big asset for this Crusader team.
“Personally, I don’t know what North Greenville was lacking,” said Alexander. “But I can bring God-given talent, friendship, trust and leadership to the team.”
The incoming freshman class for the Crusaders is one of the biggest recruiting classes the North Greenville football program has ever seen. Assistant Athletic Director Micah Sepko says that the large number of signees is due to the dedication of the coaches.
“Recruiting is how you win in college athletics, and we are finally getting out there and being a little more proactive,” said Sepko.
All of these changes are giving the coaching staff hope for a successful season on the gridiron this fall.
“When you sign a recruiting class, you don’t find out how good they are until about two or three years after they sign,” said Chadwell. “With these guys coming in, they are going to have to play early so we are counting on them to bring a lot of success to North Greenville.”
