The Lady Crusaders dropped a tough game on the road to King College, then traveled to Allen University where they came up big with a 39-point win.

“We let King [College] take it to us a little more than we should have,” said head coach Jayne Arledge. “But we were able to go to Allen [University], set some team goals for ourselves, accomplish most of those goals and play a very good team game.”

An 18-point effort by guard Karly Stache, sophomore mathematics, was not enough to pull the Crusaders through a tough battle with King College, as they were downed 65-55 on Feb. 9.

Other top performers for the Crusaders included Nikki Wood, senior psychology, who had 10 points and five rebounds, and Krisceda Cotton, freshman sport management, who also racked up 10 points on the night.

“I felt like we were giving our best effort [against King College],” Whitney Smith, senior accounting, said. “We just couldn’t catch a break or get a run going at critical times.”

Despite the tough night against King College, the Crusaders were able to bounce back quickly on Feb. 11, dismantling Allen University 80-41.

“Allen was a great game for the entire team. We really had good ball movement which got the whole team involved in the game,” said Smith.

Team leaders for the Crusaders included Landrie Fox, freshman undecided, who had a career-high 10 points, and Stache who lead the team with 13 points including three three-pointers.

“If we can keep playing like we did [against Allen], playing good defense and passing the ball, it could be a huge benefit to us in the tournament,” said Arledge.

The Lady Crusaders (11-12) started the NCCAA Regionals Monday and will play their next game in Hayes Gymnasium Friday at 5 p.m. against Hiwassee College.
