Last week was “Rivalry Week” in the world of college basketball and the North Greenville Crusaders took part in the festivities on Feb. 9 as they played against in-state rival Southern Wesleyan University in Hayes Gymnasium. In a game marred by fouls, the Warriors defeated the Crusaders 93-91 in overtime.
The Crusaders were down 46-41 at the half but made a furious second half comeback thanks to hot outside shooting by Zack Shields, freshman accounting, and Jonathan Bozymowski, sophomore undecided, as well as the inside dominance of Paul Harrison, sophomore sport management.
Harrison recorded a double-double in the game, scoring 24 points and pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds. Shields hit all four of his three-point attempts and finished the game with 12 points off of the bench. Bozymowski had the most complete game for North Greenville, finishing with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists. Luke Lattimer, freshman sport management, scored 13 points in the game and Millan Rodrigo, freshman sport management, scored 11 points and dished out five assists.
On. Feb. 11, North Greenville traveled to Columbia, SC for a rematch with the Yellow Jackets of Allen University. A poor shooting night haunted the Crusaders, as they were unable to avenge an early season loss dropping the game 74-56.
Harrison once again led the Crusader offense, scoring 14 points and collecting six rebounds. Shields was the only other Crusader to score in double figures as he finished the game with 11 points.
The Crusaders were on the road again yesterday against Charleston Southern University and will continue their road trip today in Gaffney, SC, with a game against Limestone College at 7 p.m. North Greenville’s next home contest will be this Friday, Feb. 19, against Hiwassee College at 7 p.m.
