After winning two consecutive games, the North Greenville men’s basketball team traveled to Anderson University on Feb. 22 in hopes of gaining revenge on the Trojans, who downed the Crusaders 80-76 earlier this season. North Greenville shot 53 percent from the field but only 43 percent from the free throw line leading to an 82-78 victory for Anderson.
Paul Harrison, sophomore sports management, recorded his fourth straight double-double, scoring 31 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Luke Lattimer, freshman sports management, and Zack Shields, freshman accounting, were the only other Crusaders to score in double figures, finishing with 12 and 10 points respectively.
The Crusaders returned home to Tigerville on Feb. 23 to close out the 2010 season against the Cougars of Carver Bible College. Thanks to a clutch performance by Shields, North Greenville defeated Carver 103-101 in overtime.
Shields, who scored a team-high 24 points, hit a game-tying three-pointer with seven seconds left to send the game into overtime. The Cougars and Crusaders traded baskets for much of the extra period but with four seconds left on the game clock, Shields was fouled and sent to the foul line. He once again came up big for the Crusaders, hitting both free throws and winning the game.
Other offensive performers included Harrison, who finished with 22 points and eight rebounds. Harrison now has more than 1,000 points in his young Crusader career. Lattimer finished the game with 20 points while Jonathan Bozymowski, sophomore undecided, scored 11 points in the contest.
“It was not very pretty but I was proud to see us grind out a win,” said head coach Chad Lister.
The Crusaders’ (15-11) next game will be in the NCCAA South Regional Tournament in West Palm Beach, Fla. on March 8-10.
