Crusader tennis trounces Greensboro

The men’s and women’s tennis teams had no trouble defeating Greensboro College, but the Lady Crusaders fell to Erskine College in a hard-fought match.

The Lady Crusaders began the week on Feb. 26 by dropping a 9-0 match at home against Erskine College. The Flying Fleet easily handled the Crusaders sweeping the singles and doubles matches. Cassie Curtis, freshman secondary education, and Cherie Curtis, junior elementary education, came up short in their doubles match after a tough 8-9 battle.

The men’s and women’s teams then traveled to Greensboro College on Feb. 27 where they dominated the Pride with scores of 8-1 and 9-0.

The men, who are now 3-2, were led by Tomas Clack, junior business, who won both of his singles sets 6-0, 6-0, and Timur Kamilov, freshman print media, who won his singles sets 6-2 and 6-1.

The Lady Crusaders were also able to put up an impressive effort by shutting out the Pride and moving their overall record to 3-3 on the season.

Cassie Curtis, who won her singles sets 6-1, 6-1, and Katherine Shaw, sophomore psychology, who won her singles sets 6-1, 6-3, were the top performers for North Greenville.

Both teams played yesterday at Brevard College and will play against Tusculum College on March 5.
