An exciting and deeply impactful Christian Worldview Week at North Greenville University ended on a high note Thursday, March 18, with a concert from the band Chasen.
“It was awesome,” said Kelli Williams, freshman outdoor leadership. “You could feel the excitement and passion that God has been putting in hearts all week. I loved it.”
The four-member band exerted energy and genuine love for God and the students that they were ministering to. From song to song, they seamlessly integrated elements of pop, rock and praise and worship.
Kaylin Waldrop, freshman elementary education, said that even though she had never heard the band before, she thought it sounded great and had an interesting style.
The audience met the band’s enthusiasm with equal intensity to what had been building all week due to more than 40 students receiving Christ and many more rededicating their lives to Him.
Another factor that undoubtedly added to the excitement is the fact that one of North Greenville University’s own former students, Jared Barber, is the bassist for Chasen.
D.J. Vincent, freshman business management, said that Barber used to come over to his dorm last semester and jam with students. Vincent jokingly remarked that Barber played and sang so well that it made him want to quit singing and playing guitar.
The band stationed, in Greenville, gets its name from its front man Chasen Callahan. Callahan gained experience in music as a worship pastor for more than a decade. During summers, students would join him to form temporary bands. Evan Silver and Aaron Lord eventually joined Callahan, and Chasen was born. In May of 2009, Barber was recruited, cementing the unique sound and style of the band.
Callahan continued to lead worship at Marathon Church until he felt God calling him to reach out with his music to people outside the walls of the church. Soon after, INO Records signed the band, and it now is on the fast track to professional Christian music. “On and On,” the first single off their debut album, That Was Then, This Is Now, can currently be heard on Christian radio stations everywhere.
