“The highlight of the night for me was seeing God’s power through music by [His] calling those kids to come to know Him,” said Brent Richburg, sophomore sport management.

Eight teenagers made decisions to accept Christ as Lord and Savior Thursday night, March 28, at the Grace in Your Face concert held in the Hayes Ministry Center at North Greenville University.
Richburg brought in acts such as Godchild, which includes Chandler Bailey, an NGU graduate, and Sing Me Surrender, whose members are all current students, as well as Kill Me a Bear and Last Breath of August, who share guitarist and current student Johnny Kittrell, freshman Christian studies. We Sail at Dawn, soon to be signed to a major label, was also invited.
Godchild is a hip-hop act, while all the other bands are hardcore for the most part. Richburg said that his goal was to bring in acts that appeal to an audience that is not normally reached at NGU. Each band’s love for God and purpose in ministry was unquestionable as time and again testimonies were given and the gospel was shared.

Sam Holt, senior marketing, said, “Growing up fundamentalist and being a new convert myself, the Lord used this mightily in my life to expand my worship experience and glorify Him with a diverse group of brothers and sisters.”

“It was definitely an amazing time getting to meet new brothers and sisters at this event, but the most incredible part was being on stage when we witnessed eight people come to know Jesus. That is the entire reason we do what we do. All glory to our mighty God,” declared Kittrell.

Most of the acts at Grace in Your Face came voluntarily without any expectation of compensation for time or expense. Kill Me a Bear, Last Breath of August and We Sail at Dawn are all based in the Columbia area and had to take a two-hour drive to get to NGU.

Richburg wanted to be sure to let all the acts know how much he appreciated their taking time out of their busy schedules to use their talents to entertain but more importantly, to minister to the students and guests who attended the event.

No doubt the greatest reward for Richburg’s efforts in organizing this event was seeing a particular attendee, his brother Travis Richburg, come to know Christ through the ministry provided by all involved in music, testimony and counseling.
