Crusaders bring home first place

After a sub-par performance in the Georgia College Invitational, the North Greenville University golf team returned to Tigerville to host the Cherokee Valley Invitational on its home course on April 5-6.

Competing against North Greenville were Mars Hill College, Limestone College, King College and Brevard College.

The Crusaders used the advantage of playing on their home course and shot a two-day total of 580 to finish in first place overall for the second time this season. Limestone turned in a team total of 620 to finish in a distant second place. Mars Hill shot a 634 to take home third place, while King and Brevard shot 636 and 640 to finish fourth and fifth respectively.

On the individual scoreboard the Crusaders brought home the top five positions. Brandon Coggins, senior elementary education, shot 73 and 66 to finish with a tournament best total of 139. Brad Caldwell, senior sport management, was the invitational’s runner-up as he turned in a 72 and 73 for a total of 145. Danny Dippel, freshman sport management, finished close behind in third place with a tournament total of 148 while Richard Smith, junior marketing, finished fourth with a total score of 150 and Andrew Beck, junior marketing, finished in fifth place with a 153.

The Crusaders final tournament of the season will come in the Independent College Invitational held on April 12-13 in Etowah, N.C.
