As football season begins, there are always the stars of the field who have been dedicated to making a difference from past seasons. With football coach Jamey Chadwell’s second season beginning, there is a need to prove that Crusader football can bounce back from 2009’s 2-8 record.
After Chadwell’s success at Charleston Southern, he came to North Greenville with a goal to win games, but more importantly enrich his players with the love of football and the love of Christ. Although last year’s season was not much of a success, with the recruiting process, transfer students and dedication of summer practices this year, the Crusaders are ready to hit the field and these six players are the ones to watch closely.
Willy Korn, sophomore Broadcast Media, has made quite the uproar in Tigerville. Once a four-star recruit from Byrnes High School, Korn attended and played for Clemson and attended summer practice at Marshall University. However, he recently transferred to North Greenville University, beginning practice just a few weeks before the season began. Korn will play quarterback, expecting to initiate game-changing plays.
Isaiah Johnson, sophomore sport management, listed as a back-up quarterback and starting punt returner, expected to make a big difference in Crusader offense and special teams. With speed and quickness, Johnson has the chance to be a key part in obtaining wins.
Justin Beasley, sophomore sport management, is the running back planning to be a key player in winning games this season.
“I’m looking forward to seeing all the hard work pay off and us come together as a team to win games this season,” Beasley said.
Jereme Green, junior print media, is starting his third year as defensive back and is expected to be the leader of a strong defense.
“This season I’m looking forward to seeing all of our new weapons on offense and defense being unleashed,” said Green
Nathan Batchelor, junior business administration, is one of the linebackers to watch this season. With his quickness and ability to cover the field sideline to sideline, nothing is said to get past Batchelor.
“I love being a linebacker. I like being the quarterback of the defense and I love to hit people. Nothing makes me happier than smashing a running back in the hole,” said Batchelor.
Jamarius Robinson, junior business administration, will be a safety that takes on much responsibility.
Robinson said, “I like the position I play because it forces me to be accountable to my teammates. If I don’t take care of my responsibility then it usually costs the team points so I have to always be on my job.”
As free safety, Robinson has the job to stop the passes from being completed, which requires speed and readiness to stop any throws coming his way.
Not only are these six players going to make a difference this season but with the whole team supporting the calls of coach Chadwell, the Crusaders are looking forward to a winning season with the motto, “strike the stone.”
