Relay for Life event outside for first time with carnival theme

Want something fun to do on a Friday night at North Greenville University? Never fear. Relay for Life will be held here in front of the student center on Friday, April 8, from 5-10 p.m. Relay for Life will be hosted outside for the first time this year.
Chairperson of the NGU Relay for Life Toni Orr, senior interdisciplinary studies, said, “I’m very excited about the Relay for Life event coming up soon. It will be a wonderful time to see the support of the student body for cancer awareness.”
Erica Floyd, sophomore print media, said, “I’m looking forward to the event because I get to fight cancer with great people at a great school.”
The event will be set up like a carnival. Fun and games will be available for everyone to play such as the dunking tank. Along with that will be cotton candy and a clown.
The overall theme for this year’s Relay for Life event is Baseball: Striking out Cancer. One team’s members decided to name themselves The Benchwarmers to go along with the baseball theme. Captain of The Benchwarmers Harrison Boltin, sophomore secondary math education, said, “I’m really excited to see NGU come out and help find a cure for cancer.”
Ken Chamberlin, senior business administration, and TJ Vaughn, sophomore secondary education, are the owners of Brothers in Christ Entertainment and will be the DJs for the event. Chamberlin and Vaughn are both really excited for the opportunity to be a part of an event that helps fight cancer.
One highlight of the night will be the Mr. Relay for Life pageant, which will take place during the Relay for Life event. Along with that, there will be an open mic. Mass communication instructor Andy Stevens will play the bagpipes during the memory lap.
